this semester is surreal. i feel like i'm in purgatory. it's uncomfortable. i'm doing my best, and i'm not unhappy, but i'm tired of waiting.

i'm really, really tired. also, i have some of the most inconsiderate apartment mates i've ever had to deal with. the music is currently blasting (which at this stage is largely just annoying, since i'm not trying to sleep)... last night, they were yelling on the phone on loud speaker at 3:30 am. i just can't fathom being that incapable of thinking about the way you're affecting the people around you.

also, i'm getting really, really bored with undergrad. this is bad, since i've gained myself an extra year... i'm just really, really tired of the same type of classes over and over and over again, the same cycle every semester. i feel like i've written the same formulaic paper 486859 times. i want to do something else. bring on the science.

we won our football game yesterday (against FSU). it was only the second time GameDay (ESPN)'s ever been to BC, so everyone was really amped despite the fact that it was pouring and we were slated to lose. it was especially awesome because...

well, i can't remember whether i've discussed this here or not, at least one of you already knows what i'm talking about, though... a "unicorn" is someone you see ALL the time but never talk to and don't really actually know. anyway, my unicorn is mark herzlich, who is a linebacker for the football and REALLY incredibly good (best lineman in the ACC, finalist for the Butkus Award, and expected to be a top 5 draft pick in 2010). anyway, he was diagnosed in may with ewing's sarcoma, a really rare bone cancer. he had a massive tumor taking up most of his femur.

so needless to say, he's not playing this season. but he's been in treatment since may, and he announced saturday that his doctors have told him they're 99% sure the cancer is GONE. not just going away, but GONE. also, BC's football team has been raising money for cancer research in his name, and FSU donated $9000 in his name. Clemson donated $5000 last week, and VT's expected to match it next week. it's an amazing show of sportsmanship and support, and so it was really awesome that we won the game on top of that.

also, we're now leading the atlantic division of the ACC and tied with VT and Georgia Tech for the lead in the whole conference. take that, assholes who were projected we'd be last in the conference. hopefully we can keep it up.
